The states are done and I have the award!
I finished my 50th state in May, 2010. It was a little disappointing in that I didn't know anyone else there. I had to ask for cheers from the crowd as I approached the finish line. I've been a member of the 50 State Marathon Club long enough, and I've done enough marathons, that nearly always I see people I know. I was shocked to not see any friends there.
So I went to my car and talked about my achievement with my departed fiance. Don't judge! It's comforting to think that he somehow hears me, and therapeutic to talk to him. Since he was a big supported of my running, I know he would have been proud of me that day.
The real celebration came at the 50 States reunion marathon in Omaha in September. If you are unfamiliar with the club, one marathon during each quarter is designated as a reunion run and a club meeting is held the day before the marathon. We had scads of finishers at the Omaha meeting. So many of my friends were there, and the celebration was joyful.
Stay tuned for more exploits.
