Well, I signed up for the Savage 7, 7 marathons in 7 days, in Ocala, FL. Day 1 was on Dec. 26, and day 7 will be on New Year's Day. I've had blisters on my toes for years, but most of the time they aren't so painful, and heal quickly. This time I developed a blister on the bottom of my right heel, about the size of a pea. For day 2, I put a blister pad on it and tape on top of that, but the blister grew to about 1-1/2 times the size of a quarter. Because I was trying to protect the right heel, I irritated my left knee. So then I had two problems.
I rested on Day 3, thinking I could heal everything. Disappointed that I was out of the running for completing all 7, but still hoping to do 6/7, I went out again on Day 4. Determined to just walk at a comfortable pace, I did all right until about mile 16 or so. It was hard to judge miles because we were running laps on a track--105.5 per day. Then the knee started to hurt and I realized I had a new blister that was even more painful than the first. So I limped my way to the finish--that was no day for quitting.
That night I pricked all the blisters and hoped to be able to go out on Day 5, but when I got up I couldn't put weight on my right heel yet, so I threw in the towel. I'm done for this series, but if this event is repeated again next year, I'm in again.
Anyone know how to heal the pain in the back of my knee in a week? I'm doing First Light on Jan. 9, 2011.
